The Home Stretch!

by Seth Taylor, #road2boston ambassador

3 weeks to go and last long run/peak week is done, time to taper!

60 total miles this week which included ~22 miles on Saturday during the Marathon Sports last long run (see my Instagram for the highlights), and the weekend culminated with the An Ras Mor 5K in Cambridge where I had the privilege of guiding Jason Savageau to a 22:59 finish as an Achilles International guide!

The last long run before Boston is definitely a new tradition I have to be a part of every year, regardless of running on Patriots Day! Our portion of the course was from Ashland to Boston, and the amount of energy on the course is absolutely insane and this community never ceases to amaze me. I simply cannot begin to imagine the power of the crowd on Patriot’s Day if this was a “dress rehearsal”. I think “floating” along the course is a possibility from the cheers of the crowd.

Above all, thank you to our First Responders who managed traffic and kept us safe on Saturday. We always appreciate you!

Fast forward to Sunday, woke up early and legs were: SO. SORE.

In order to get some speed in my “running gear” a slower paced run along the river was in order, by mile 3 of 5 I was fairly loosened up and picking up pace.

Here is Jason, fellow guide Naomi Wagner and Jason with me coming down to the finish. Jason won 1st place in the visually impaired division, so awesome! Congrats again, Jason! Naomi did most of the guiding with excellent focus. I found that my biggest contribution was pacing and looking for objectives further in front of us.

Naomi, Jason, and me!

A special thanks to the Somerville Road Runners, Achilles International Boston and all of the volunteers! It was an amazing, fully inclusive race!

Truth be told, after the 30 miles in 2 days, I was ready to eat and ordered two breakfast plates at The Asgard Irish Pub. Unfortunately, I was too indecisive with my Irish vs. American breakfast plate that my pancakes were cancelled, haha.

Now it is time to stay healthy and enjoy the taper!

The #road2boston continues, and I hope you all are doing great!
