SHOE UPDATE: Brooks Levitate Running Shoe Review

Oh boy. This shoe has arrived and it is NICE. Brooks has flipped the script with the brand new Levitate, providing a shoe that offers more energy return than any running shoe you’ve ever worn.

So what’s the deal with this shoe?

DNA AMP Midsole Technology

A very interesting new midsole material which is a combination of a polyurethane foam that is encased in a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) skin.

Okay, that was a string of big words that probably doesn’t mean much to most people. But here’s how it works.

  • The cushioning in the bottom of the shoe is made of polyurethane foam. When you compress a piece of foam (with your foot in this case), it wants to expand out. Think of what happens when you compress a ball of clay. Same concept.
  • BUT, the midsole is wrapped in a Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) ‘skin.’ It acts as a wall to keep the foam from compressing out. But that energy has to go somewhere, so it moves vertically.
  • SO, your steps feel springier and more responsive in this shoe!

Fit Knit Upper

This thing is like a sock! No seams, no stitching. A 3D print on the upper gives you a custom fit everytime.

The Brooks Levitate ($149.99) is available in men’s size 8-13 and women’s size 6-11 in most Marathon Sports locations and at [SHOP MEN’S] [SHOP WOMEN’S]
