The classic lives on! The Asics Gel Kayano updates on June 1st, but we are lucky enough to get our hands on it early thanks to an exciting partnership between Asics and Runkeeper!
This high cushioned stability shoe has been a fan favorite for 23 iterations now, and while version 24 has some fresh new tech, it doesn’t stray too far from its roots as one of the classic bread and butter shoes in the running industry.
Here’s what’s new in version 24:
BETTER FIT AND FEEL
The upper is stitched with a new jacquard mesh, providing a more accommodating fit than prior versions.
IMPROVED HEEL FIT
Asics added an improved ‘Meta Heel clutch,’ which is basically just a structured piece wrapping through the heel to lock you in place. They also lowered the heel collar slightly to prevent rubbing along the achilles.
FLYTEFOAM
While not new to this version of the Kayano, FlyteFoam is a new-ish midsole technology from Asics that is significantly lighter than traditional EVA rubber. It provides more durability and bounce-back than a traditional midsole compound, which means more snap in each step and a longer lifespan in the shoe.
The Asics Gel Kayano ($159.99) is available in men’s size 8-13 and women’s size 6-11 in all Marathon Sports locations. It will be available on marathonsports.com starting June 1st. And in the meantime, go to the App Store and download Runkeeper to start logging those miles!
