So as soon as the Hyperboost Edge came through our doors, we laced them up and hit the road for a variety of different test runs. The Hyperboost Edge accompanied us through speed workouts, long runs, and all the mileage in between so we could gain the best possible insight into how this super trainer performs.

adidas shoes tend to have a relatively high heel-to-toe offset, but the brand dials it down in the Hyperboost Edge with a 6 mm drop. This lower drop helps keep your feet in a natural position to keep you stable as you run.
LIGHTTRAXION Outsole
While super trainers don’t wear out quite as fast as their carbon-plated racing counterparts, they tend not to have the same long-lasting durability as traditional workhorse shoes. However, adidas improves the Hyperboost Edge’s longevity and resilience with a full-length LIGHTTRAXION outsole.
This lightweight synthetic outsole offers exceptional grip and traction on roads or slippery surfaces, all while preventing early wear and helping you enjoy more miles in these shoes.
Ringing up at $200, the Hyperboost Edge is pricier compared to more standard daily trainers. However, with this grippy outsole and incredibly versatile design, you can also expect plenty of use and adaptability that you won’t find in many daily trainers.
The adidas Hyperboost Edge in Action: Road Test Results
The Hyperboost Edge is all about pushing limits on runs, so our review team couldn’t wait to lace up this anticipated super trainer and see how this max stack ultra-light shoe performed on the road.
The Hyperboost Edge debuted a brand new type of foam, and sliding the shoes on for the first time, this race-inspired foam was an immediate standout. Hyperboost Pro uses a fine-tuned, pelletized version of the brand’s racing foam to deliver an ultra-lightweight and responsive ride. And as our review team set out on our test runs, we were happy to see this foam deliver the energy return and bounce it promises.
Another feature we really enjoyed was the soft and ultra-light PRIMEWEAVE upper. The soft gusseted tongue and woven material effectively hugged the feet and provided a snug and secure fit that felt fantastic during uptempo days or long runs.
The pods in the heel for extra cushioning were another major plus. The upper itself has a sleek, no-frills design without much extra padding, but these two comfort heels ensure luxurious all-around comfort, from right out of the box to the very last mile. This more minimal upper also helped keep the shoe feeling light, which we appreciated in the later miles of our long runs.
Many of our reviewers enjoyed the snug, almost contoured fit the Hyperboost Edge had to offer. However, those with wider feet found that the fit was a bit too narrow through the toe box. While this performance-oriented fit can help reduce distraction or excess movement during fast runs, anyone who wants a wider, more accommodating fit may find the Hyperboost Edge too tight.
The fit isn’t the only feature that may not work for every runner out there. Our review team was impressed by the feel and responsiveness of the Hyperboost Pro cushioning. But the high stack – 45 mm in the heel and 39 mm in the forefoot – definitely took some getting used to.
The 6 mm drop, as well as the responsive cushioning, did help a bit with stability. But overall, the high platform could feel a bit wobbly and unstable underfoot. If you prefer feeling the ground under your feet, the Hyperboost Edge may not be the shoe for you.
While this cushioning may not be for everyone, the large stack of ultra plush and responsive foam does have its benefits. It provided exceptional energy return, and it helped keep legs and feet feeling just as fresh and comfortable at mile 10 as it did at mile 1. The midsole also incorporates a late-stage rocker design that did a great job of propelling us through each stride.
With all bouncy foam, the Hyperboost Edge really shined on recovery days and long runs. But with a foam inspired by race-day shoes, we found that it was also versatile enough to handle speed days and uptempo intervals. It’s remarkably lightweight, with a sleek, performance-focused design that can easily carry you through any type of run.
The full-length LIGHTTRAXION outsole added even more versatility. It was grippy on wet pavement or dirt roads and kept us moving in confidence, even as we racked up miles.
Super trainers have become increasingly prevalent in the running shoe world, and with adidas’s stellar racing shoe record, we were excited to see them release a more accessible and durable uptempo trainer. If you’re looking for a versatile, max cushion shoe that can take you from track workouts to long runs and even a marathon race day, the Hyperboost Edge might be the perfect choice for you.
Pros and Cons
Thorough road testing is a great way to uncover both the best features of a shoe and some of the features that could use some improvement. Here are the pros and cons we discovered as we took a closer look at the Hyperboost Edge:

While we loved how responsive the Hyperboost Edge is, the whopping stack height means you can’t really feel the ground under your feet. If you want similar responsiveness with more stability, you may want to try another popular adidas shoe, the adidas Adizero EVO SL.
With a lower stack height and full-length Lightstrike Pro midsole, the Evo SL is another lightweight daily trainer that can handle a huge variety of runs. It certainly won’t feel as plush or supportive during long runs as the Hyperboost Edge. But if you want a more grounded – and more affordable – alternative from adidas, it’s a great option.
We also couldn’t discuss super trainer options without highlighting one of the most popular running shoe models in the category, the Asics Megablast.
Like the Hyperboost Edge, the Megablast is a non-plated performance trainer. However, many runners find the Megablast slightly stiffer and more geared towards faster runs. Both shoes are incredibly versatile, but while the Hyperboost Edge excels during long, easy miles, the Megablast works best as a speed or race day shoe.
