When you take on a fitness program with a specific goal or end date, it’s not uncommon to feel a little bit lost at the end. There’s kind of a ‘what now?’ feeling.
So now that your challenge is over, where do you go from here? Fall back into bad habits? Of course not! Nobody would ever actually plan to do that, right?
But its surprisingly easy – too easy, actually – to let that happen. Fitness is lifelong, and it takes effort and persistence. Take a look at your own behavior and ways of self-motivating:
- Are you the type of person that does really well when you set a specific goal? Then choose a new goal for the next 10 weeks!
- Are you the type of person who craves routine? Then try easy ways to incorporate fitness into your daily routine, like walking to work instead of taking the bus, bringing your gym clothes to work so you can’t skip your evening workout, or scheduling a fitness class in advance.
- Are you the type of person that is hard on herself when you miss a workout? Then try to start looking at things from a weekly or monthly level instead of fixating on every day. Sometimes, life is going to get in the way and make you miss a workout – but don’t let it snowball into weeks or months of no exercise.
Be proud of your progress, and remember that fitness and good health is a lifetime commitment, with ebbs and flows.
