At first look, the Garmin Forerunner 235 is an attractive yet sporty watch. It comes in multiple color options from a sleek black to vibrant turquoise. An upgrade from the also popular Forerunner 230, the 235 adds Garmin’s optical wrist-based heart rate sensor on the underside of the watch – so no need for a heart rate monitor strap.
A medium sized watch at a 31.1mm display size, this will look nice on just about any wrist. It is also light, around 42g. This watch keeps it simple with a black plastic casing for all color styles but is somewhat rugged and can take a few nicks and scratches while keeping its sleek appearance.
The Forerunner 235 is nicely lit with a color screen that is sunlight readable for an easy glance at your pace during your run. With three main buttons and two smaller ones for screen scrolling, it is easy to navigate. The off-colored central activity button is right on the top to start your exercise.
WHAT IT DOES
The Forerunner 235 is the perfect companion for an everyday runner or walker, holding up to 200 hours of activity data. It measures activity at the wrist 24/7, as well as constantly tracking your steps, distance traveled, and calories burned.
While keeping tabs on your heart rate, it is able to give statistical feedback about your training such as Vo2max, race predictor (from 5k to marathon), and total daily expenditure (TDE). Along with those stats, it can be helpful to know when to take it easy! The 235 will also give an allotted time for a suggested recovery with the recovery advisor.
The battery lasts about a week with daily use, making it comfortable to wear all day and keep on your wrist while sleeping. On the Garmin Connect App, you will be able to see graphs and stats about your sleep cycles and all-around training. This is one of the first watches from Garmin that will let you customize your workouts and download them on the watch. With a touch of the top right button you’ll be on your way to doing your mile repeat workout!
You can also customize your watch face, choosing from hundreds of styles displaying time and other stats from your day. Preloaded activities on this watch include outdoor and indoor running, cycling, and more.
