The Canton Fall Classic is always grateful for the loyal following developed over the years. In 2023, past champions contributed to the trend by winning both the men’s and women’s 5k and also the men’s 10k.In a slight drizzle Trevor Wysong (2022 5k champion and course record holder) led the field through the mile in just under 5 minutes with Alexander Healey right there with him. For the women Amy O’Sullivan took it out in a quick 5:42. At 3 miles (17:19) O’Sullivan had broken clear of competitors, but Healy stayed close to Wysong who split 14:52 (sub 5 min pace) at 3. It took Wysong until mile 5 to put any distance between himself and second place. Wysong crossed the line in 31:09 – 5:01 pace. Healey came in 17 seconds later. O’Sullivan won by just about 3 minutes maintaining a 6 minute pace throughout. In the 5k Louis Raffetto added a fourth win to his impressive race history in the 5k to go along with his 2014 10k victory. Louis finished in 16:57 ten seconds ahead of Rob Sheehan. Mimi Fallon (nee Corcoran) returned to the race 24 years after winning the 5k overall to win the women’s division in 20:24! Mimi is a four time Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon. Louis was not the only repeat winner in the Raffetto family. Olivia won the fun run overall for the second year in a row just nipping John Ealy at the line in 5:50. Spectating, fresh off a top finish in the Hockomock Championship Cross Country meet the prior day was her sister Lauren. John’s dad was the first Canton finisher in the 10k finishing 4th overall (34:52). Considering John’s dad and Olivia’s dad train together 5 days a week leads some to guess that it may not be the first time Olivia and John have raced. |
