Built Faster For Your Best Race Day Performance

The Altra Vanish Carbon 2 is here and faster than before, sporting several upgrades including a weight reduction from the previous model. This zero-drop road racing shoe now uses a full-length carbon-fiber plate, adding a propulsive boost to each stride.

Another big update for the Vanish Carbon 2 is the inclusion of more Altra EGO™ PRO foam in the midsole. The overall stack height has increased from 33 mm to 36 mm, allowing for more impact absorption. To make things even better, the EGO™ PRO midsole foam has been reformulated to be 32% lighter.

One thing Altra is known for is the use of FootShape™ technology throughout their shoes, giving you ample space when lacing up. The Vanish Carbon also uses Altra’s Slim FootShape™ technology, allowing your feet the space they require while still providing a secure fit.

The toe shield needs attention

I've run in numerous Altra Escalantes and more recently the Racer, both of those in size 11. The size 11 in the Vanish Carbon 2 felt great except in the toes. The front of the toe shield or whatever one calls that at the front is too stiff and irritated my toes. I ordered a size 11.5 to try and, while better, my toes still grazed that stiffer material in the toe. Otherwise they were very comfortable through the rest of the upper, the midsole, and the heal. There felt like a really nice amount of rocker. The laces were really nice. The midsole cushion was very nice.

Switch to Altra

I can only run in wide carbon plated shoes due to hallux rigidus. I had been using New Balance for running. I don't need the carbon plate for walking so was using wide Asics and Brooks for walking. However, I was recently was diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma. I could no longer use my current shoes without neuroma pain. I read that Altra's may help due to the wider toe box and zero drop.I started with Altra Totin Wides and that really helped my neuroma pain. Then I tried the Vanish Carbon 2 for running and they not only helped with the neuroma but also did not aggravate my hallux. They dont come in wide (which was a worry) but the Altra toe box shape give my toes enough room to splay once I re-laced them to allow extra forefoot room. I was worried that I would have to consider non-conservative methods to keep running, but the Altra Vanish Carbon 2's have solved my worry. I only wish I could purchase a second color.
