Meet Saucony. Although the company was founded in 1898, this Boston-based brand may be considered lesser-known by some when compared to titanic athletic names like Nike or Asics. However, amongst avid runners, they have built up a reputation of producing comfortable, well-performing shoes that can withstand a range of weather and trail conditions.
The Saucony Hurricane 24 is one of the brand’s latest shoe drops. This versatile shoe is specifically designed for the road, but we love to bring them with us everywhere we go.
For a Saucony Hurricane 24 review that gives you all you need to know before lacing up, look no further. We dive into the nitty-gritty about what makes these shoes great.
Our Review Process
We won’t tell you about shoes we haven’t worn ourselves. When we write reviews, members of our review team put them on and take them for a spin. We run on gravel, road, dirt, and everything in between. We also run for a variety of distances so we can attest to shoes that may be better for sprinters or for long distance runners.
The Hurricane 24 is the latest installment in the Hurricane series. We love the comfort that this new design brings. These shoes prioritize stability and comfort for road runners of all types.

Learn about the Saucony Hurricane 24
Now that you’ve peeked at the overview, take a closer look at what makes the Hurricane 24 the best Hurricane shoe from Saucony yet.
CenterPath Technology
If you have worn Saucony shoes before, then you are probably familiar with their signature CenterPath Technology. This design system is composed of three parts: a wide base, high side walls, and an asymmetrical profile. Each component is intended to support every part of the step from liftoff to strike and roll.
The wide base present on the Saucony Hurricane 24 is intended to add as a sort of landing pad for your foot. When you have a wider base to step on, you may be less likely to slip or trip over your own heels. This can be especially useful on rougher terrain, such as dirt or gravel, that may not always provide smooth, secure spots for your feet to hit while you run.
High side walls prevent the occasional ankle wobble from causing your shoe to slip off of your heel. As your foot flexes when you run, shorter side walls may be pushed further apart over time, creating a wider hole for your foot to start slipping out of. If you have ever had to pause a run because your shoe got too loose, you understand how frustrating the sensation of heel-lift can be. The higher walls also offer runners the opportunity to experience cushioning both below and on top of their feet as they move.
The asymmetrical profile prominent in many current Saucony shoes features additional foam on the medial side of the shoe. If you are a runner who tends to overpronate, you’ll appreciate the extra durability and guidance of your foot. The overall design structure lends itself to a healthy, neutral running posture that is sustainable for lifelong athletes.
Dual-Layer Foam
Two is greater than one, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the midsole of the Hurricane 24. Both layers of foam add more stability and may help your endurance.
The base layer of foam is the PWRRUN is incorporated into the bottom of the shoe. It helps create the wide base prominent on the Hurricane 24 that can give you more confidence in each step.
On top of that, a layer of Saucony’s PWRRUN PB foam runs along the underside of the foot. This foam is lighter and generally more comfortable than the original PWRRUN. Some reviewers felt that it significantly improved energy return and overall durability compared to shoes with one layer of foam.
Durable Outsole
Saucony has trusted in its XT-900 design for a while, and it’s showing no signs of stopping now. The reliable XT-900 premium carbon rubber outsole gives these shoes traction that lasts. As a newer alternative to their own XT-600, this material is intended to last longer and withstand rougher terrain than other outsoles.
Ortholite Sockliner
Even if the word “orthopedic” makes you question your own age, any runner can benefit from Ortholite’s innovative designs. Their sockliner can help regulate temperature within a shoe, which can prevent your feet from getting overheated on longer or warmer runs. They also add an additional layer of comfort on top of the two levels of foam already built into the shoe.
Mesh Upper
The engineered mesh upper seen in the top of the shoe also helps keep things cool. Made of comfortable material, this piece aims to enhance the all-around cushioning found in this shoe without cutting off ventilation at the ankle. The adaptable lacing on top of the tongue also lets you adjust your level of snugness to the perfect fit for you.
Pros and Cons of the Saucony Hurricane 24
The details are great, but let’s take a look at all of this in a more efficient way. We break down what the biggest positives and negative points are in relation to the Hurricane 24.
Pros of the Hurricane 24
The Hurricane 24 is a solid running shoe. If you’re just hitting the pavement for the first time, or you’re a seasoned road runner, these shoes are great for getting out there and crossing the next finish line.
Saucony’s signature shoe construction is awesome for runners that are looking for shoes to support a healthy form. The CenterPath technology present in this design helps you keep to a pace that is stable and reliable. Combined with a durable outsole, you may be pleasantly surprised at how well these shoes can keep up with your mileage.
What’s more, these shoes are ideal for athletes who prioritize comfort above all else. The layers upon layers of cushioning featured throughout the shoe make the whole experience wearing a pair of these a pleasant one.
Hurricane 24 Pros:
- Layers of soft cushioning provide plenty of comfort, both with the immediate step-in feel and after miles and miles of running
- CenterPath technology provides subtle support without feeling too firm or obtrusive
- The reliable and durable outsole offers plenty of durability and traction
- High stack height and plenty of plush foam makes this a fantastic shoe to carry you through high mileage
Cons of the Hurricane 24
As comfortable as these shoes are, they also come with some drawbacks. This review would not be complete if we didn’t acknowledge where we felt these shoes might be lacking.
The Hurricane 24 is a heavy shoe. There is just no getting around it. The two layers of foam in the sole paired with the high walls and mesh upper add weight that just can’t be ignored. The Hurricane 24 moves well and, in our opinion, doesn’t cause drag, but those in the market for a lightweight running shoe might want to keep looking.
In addition, the traction these shoes provide is great for road running or runs taken over gravel or dry dirt paths. However, those looking for all-weather or all-terrain shoes may be underwhelmed at the level of terrain that the Hurricane 24 can truly handle.
Hurricane 24 Cons:
- Not a good option if you’re looking for a lightweight running shoe
- Soft cushion and high stack height makes it less versatile for faster runs
- Can feel too soft for some runners
Saucony Hurricane 24 vs. Guide 17
Another recent drop from Saucony, the Guide 17 is another popular stability shoe. Its similar CenterPath Technology design makes it easy to compare the shoes to the Hurricane 24. However, there are a few notable differences.
The most obvious differentiating point between the two shoes is the foam layering. We’ve already discussed how two layers of foam make the Hurricane 24 the ultimate shoe for those seeking underfoot cushioning. The Guide 17 certainly has its own great cushioning system; the PWRRUN located in the frame of the Hurricane 24 is found throughout the Guide 17. There is only one layer of this durable, comfortable foam under the sockliner.
The Guide 17 is also significantly lighter than the Hurricane 24. In some cases, the Guide 17 is a whole ounce lighter than the Hurricane 24 in similar sizing. Between the two, the Guide 17 may be the preferred choice of athletes who are seeking lighter shoes that are sure not to hinder speed or flow.
Those who are into shoe stats may also be interested in the fact that both shoes feature a 6 mm drop – a thinner drop than other stability shoes on the market. Both shoes also come in a variety of bold and neutral colors that can fit into any running wardrobe.
Who Should Get the Saucony Hurricane 24?
Saucony has come out with another great shoe for people who want a no-nonsense high-support running shoe. If your goal is to get across the finish line, or even just get out there and run, these shoes are a perfect place to start.
The Saucony Hurricane 24 is for those who are specifically seeking a comfortable running shoe that can withstand many miles across relatively predictable terrains. Runners who commonly travel through neighborhoods, parks, or easy nature trails on sunny days may find their match in these shoes.
The subtle but effective support features also make this a versatile shoe that can work for a variety of running gaits and needs. Whether you need a little extra support for overpronation or just prefer a more structured feel with some guidance and support, the CenterPath technology features make the Hurricane 24 a fantastic choice.
