The Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth will provide area youth with activities designed to build self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and promote positive life choices.  For more information on The Boys & Girls Club of Plymouth, please visit their website at:  http://www.bgcplymouth.org.
The 10K course offers some challenges that the 5K does not have.  The first couple of miles are within the Industrial/Office Park where the Boys & Girls Club is located.  Many of the roads are named after famous astronauts, including Armstrong and Aldrin.  As you make your turn onto Armstrong around mile 1, you will be facing a memorable hill.  This is the largest hill on the course but there are some other, much less significant ups and downs.  Once you leave the park you will follow the back roads and neighborhoods and find yourself merging with the 5K course around mile 4.  The rest of the course takes you along the historic waterfront and across the finish line at Plymouth Rock.Parking is available next to the Boys and Girls Club at various locations around The Boys & Girls Club.  Volunteers will be on site to direct you to the closest parking available at the time of your arrival.

Shuttles will be available across from the finish line tents on Leydon Street to return you to your cars.  The shuttles will begin running at 9:30 am and will run approximately every 20 minutes until noon.

    Lawrence Lynch Corporation Presents
The 6th and Last Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub Almost 5 Miler
A New England Runner Pub Series Event
Hosted by Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub
    Produced by PCB Race Management
    4.9167 Miles, Sunday, May 23, 2021 October 3, 2021 SATURDAY, October 2, 2021 at 9:30 am,
    Town Hall Square, Falmouth, MA

fitz47PCB Race Management is proud to stage the 6th Annual Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub Almost Five Miler. But Alas, all good things must come to an end. So this year will be the LAST ANNUAL Liam’s! The PCB Race Management team has cast aside their walkers, wheelchairs and bibs, fortified themselves with Beer and Geritol against numerous infirmities of mind and body and decided to do it ONE MORE TIME!!! It will not be a wake, but a celebration! ON TOP OF THAT we are proud to once again be part of the New England Runner Pub Series, despite the postponements! That’s what got this thing started, and it stimulated us to postpone our retirement!!
Liam’s will again be held in Falmouth, MA on an almost breathtakingly beautiful course. Before and after the race, celebrations of the sport will held at Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub and other venues. The race will again be limited to almost 500 runners (499 precisely). So plan on registering early!

    HUGELY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!:
Because of the uncertainty about the Coronavirus Pandemic, PCB Race Management decided in March 2020 to postpone the Last Almost Annual Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub Almost Five Miler to May 23, 2021 October 3, 2021 SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2021.

You would not be out of line to ask “Why do you keep changing the dates?” As every politician says, when asked a tough or logical question, “That’s a good question; Glad you asked it…” Hopefully we have some better answers like — “The Pandemic made us do it!” “Liam’s made us do it!” “The Town made us do it!” “Oh, And the Devil did too…”
Rather than outright cancellation, we opted to postpone. While encouraged by the creation of a vaccine, we hope to hold the event safely in the manner it has traditionally been staged. The FINAL (we hope) change from Sunday, 10/3 to Saturday 10/2 was driven by Liam’s availability.

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones and stay safe!

Russ Pelletier (P), Jack Carroll (C), and Court Bird (B)
    PCB Race Management

    Registration is now open.
If you signed up for Liam’s before the race was postponed in March 2020, your registration will be valid for this October’s event. You will not have to re-register, but we have made you a year older, at least! If you can’t remember if you have already entered, please go to our Race Entry Search page. If you have moved, changed your email address, phone, club affiliation, etc, please let us know by email to [email protected].
If you registered in 2020 and you can’t run Liam’s on OCTOBER 2ND2021, send us an email to [email protected] requesting a refund during the two-week window beginning on April 19th and ending on May 3rd. We will refund the full amount of what you paid. Make sure you check your calendars at that time, because after that two-week window, we will revert to our normal “no refund” policy.

    Registration Procedure:

    • You may register on-line or by downloading an application and mailing it to us with a check for the entry fee which again this year has been kept at a penny-pinching $34.99 (Almost $35.00)! And as an added bonus, if you register on-line, we even even eat that annoying extra processing charge, which other races tack on at check-out! What’s better to like than that! Registration re-opened on Monday, April 19 at noon. The new date of the race is Saturday, October 2.
    • Almost 500 runners (499, precisely) is the limit.
    • All preregistered runners will be emailed their bib number assignments and race weekend information, including times and places for packet and bib number pick-up, beginning a week to 10 days before the race.
    • T-shirts and commemorative beer glasses will be given to all runners who pre-register by September 13, 2021. On race weekend, runners registering after that date will receive a t-shirt and beer glass based on the order of registration and as long as supplies last.
    • Chip Race timing for 2021 is being provided by Granite State Race Services

Post-Registration (if not filled) and Bib # Pick-upFriday, October 1 at Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub, 273 Main Street, Falmouth 02540 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Saturday, October 2 at Town Hall Square between 8:00 and 9:00 am.

The awards ceremony will take place at Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub following the race.

    Race Weekend Jollifications:
Pre-Race Gathering: Friday, 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Liam Maguire’s Irish Pub, 273 Main Street, Falmouth. Beer and appetizers will be available for runners and their guests. A warm-up for the main event! And a great opportunity to review race strategy, tell war stories and socialize.

    DESCRIPTION

These trail races follow rolling courses over dirt roads and forest paths in the Houghton’s Pond section of the scenic DCR Blue Hills Reservation, a few miles south of Boston.  The routes avoid steep hiking trails, but these ARE trail races, with plenty of small rocks and tree roots along the way!  Both courses are entirely on dirt.

The 7-MILE RACE will follow the same route as in 2017-2019.

The 3.7-MILE RACE was added in 2019.  It follows portions of the 7-Mile race course.

Both races will start and finish adjacent to the Houghton’s Pond Visitor Center, overlooking Houghton’s Pond.

The races are directed by Colonial Road Runners.  A portion of the race proceeds will be donated to Friends of the Blue Hills, which helps to maintain trails in the Reservation and serves as an advocate for the Reservation’s protection.

    REGISTRATION INFORMATION

The registration fee is $30 through August 31, and $35 beginning September 1.  (Members of Colonial Road Runners receive a $5 discount, which is applied automatically at checkout.)

PLEASE NOTE:  Due to DCR permit restrictions, REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 300 RUNNERS combined for the two races, and there will be NO race-day registration.

Race entries are non-refundable.  However, if you are ill or injured, or otherwise unable to participate, we will allow you to transfer or defer your entry.  For details, please contact the Race Director at [email protected] .

FOR SAFETY’S SAKE:  Due to the narrow trails, dogs are not allowed, and we strongly urge that you do not use headphones.

LONG-SLEEVE COTTON RACE SHIRTS (AVAILABLE IN BOTH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SIZES) are guaranteed to all runners who register by September 1st.

There will be three staffed water stations on the 7-mile course, and two on the 3.7-mile course.

Post-race refreshments may include bagels, bananas, and sports drinks, depending on current COVID-19 protocols,

    AWARDS

Awards will be given to the First Overall Male and Female finishers in each race, and to the top three Male and Female finishers in each age division:  19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.  First Overall finishers will also receive MARATHON SPORTS gift certificates.

    CANCELLATION POLICY

In the event of severe weather or environmental conditions, we reserve the right to cancel the races or modify the courses, to ensure the safety of race registrants and volunteers, or to protect the trails from damage.  (Examples of potential reasons to cancel the races are high winds, lightning storms, forest fires, or flooding of trails due to extremely heavy rainfall.  Rain alone would not cause us to cancel the races.)

The races are also subject to cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic or other factors, if so required by government policy and regulation.

In the event of cancellation, the races will not be rescheduled, due to the long lead-time that is required to obtain a DCR park-use permit.  If race expenses have already been incurred, it may not be possible to offer a full refund, but we will offer a partial refund or a discount towards the registration cost for the following year’s races.  We appreciate your understanding of this policy.

  • CARING FOR A CURE 5K // 11.7 // MARSHFIELD, MA.,
    Caring For A Cure 5K
    Sunday, November 7, 2021

For Patients. For Families. For Research. For a Cure.

Caring For A Cure was founded in 2011 by the nurses of the Adult Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant program at Mass General with a goal to improve the journey of patients and families with cancer through research, resources, and awareness. Since we began, we have raised over $1,000,000!

The funds raised have been directed to things both big and small – from flying in a bone marrow donor from halfway around the world, to sending caregivers out to dinner, to impromptu celebrations of anniversaries and birthdays unexpectedly spent in the hospital, to making sure new leukemia patients have real tissues.

    Our Mission

Our goal to ease the journey and uplift the spirits of our patients and their families through support, connections and research.

    • For Patients – At the core of our mission is our patients. We continuously seek opportunities both small and large to make their journey easier and uplift spirits.
    • For Families – Families support our patients and are incredibly important to us. Recognizing that this is a journey for patients and those who walk beside them, we aim to support and recognize their integral role.
    • For Research – Research leads to innovations that help our patients recover faster and moves us toward a cure. We are incredibly lucky to be based at Mass General, surrounded by an incredible research team both here and across the river.
    • For a Cure – We’d love it if we could play even a small part in curing this disease. We’d happily move on to something else and fundraise for another worthy cause.

    Research

Caring For A Cure is supporting the Mass General Cancer Center Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Survivorship program by providing funding to ensure adequate social work resources for the program. Social workers play a critical role in the Mass General Cancer Center BMT Survivorship program including:

    • Conducting a comprehensive psychosocial assessment on transplant survivors
    • Providing supportive counseling for transplant survivors with significant psychological distress
    • Participating in studies of interventions to promote the physical and psychological well-being of caregivers (i.e. family and friends) of transplant survivors
    • Leading educational workshops for patients with chronic graft-versus-host disease
