"It always seems impossible until it's done."

Does the idea of finishing a 5K seem so daunting that you're afraid to take the first step? Or maybe you've got a few 5Ks under your belt but now you're ready to set a new finish time goal. The wonderful thing about running is that it is a journey that is open to anyone of any shape or size, and we're here to help you along the way.

We are thrilled to launch our first ever Beginning Runners Program hosted at Marathon Sports Plymouth. We've partnered up with some local fitness and health care professionals to empower you to get up, out, and across the finish line at the Run to the Rock 5K on Saturday, September 9th.

This 8-week program includes 16 supported training sessions, field trips to local fitness studios, and all the expert advice and encouragement you'll need to make running a fun and integral part of your life.

The fee for the program is $100 and includes:

  • 16 supported training sessions
  • Discounted entry to the Run to the Rock 5K
  • Short-sleeve Marathon Sports Coolmax running shirt
  • 2 pairs of running socks
  • 20% off shopping night at Marathon Sports
  • Stretching, strengthening, and nutrition tips from local experts
  • Expert advice on all your running needs
  • A place to meet new friends
  • A chance to get yourself on the road to fitness!

We've scheduled the following sessions as part of the program:

> Orientation/Nutrition Class with Danielle White (July 17 6:30 PM):

We will meet at Marathon Sports Plymouth at 6:30pm for a brief orientation into the overall program, then Danielle from GU will go over nutrition basics and how to fuel for exercise.

> Crossfit Elements (July 23 9-10:30am):

An instructor from Crossfit 1620 will join us in store to demonstrate proper form in strength training, an integral part of sustainable run training. We will learn to perform functional movements like how to squat, deadlift, and snatch.

> Field Trip to Crossfit 1620 (July 30 9-10:30am):

We will apply what we learned at last week's elements class in the formal gym. This class will cover how to determine safe amounts of weight for each exercise, how/why HIIT style workouts benefit athletes training for endurance events, and several very fun exercises we couldn't do in the store, like Wall-Balls and pull ups.

> Nathan Hydration Clinic (August 2 6:30-8pm):

A brief hydration clinic by Cole from Nathan, covering the hows and whys of proper hydration during summer training. He will have demo products for us to use during the group exercise that follows his clinic.

> Yoga for Runners (August 13 9:30-10:30am):

Local high school running coach and yoga instructor Aminta Pinto will lead us through a beginners yoga class featuring a set of essential poses designed to stretch and strengthen targeted muscle groups for new runners.

> Strength for Runners (August 20 9:30-10:30am):

An instructor from Crossfit 1620 will join us again in store to lead us through more strength exercises. Expect to find tires to flip, kettlebells to swing, and boxes to jump on.

> Strength for Mobility (September 3 9:30-10:30am):

An instructor for Crossfit 1620 will lead us through a series of exercises designed to aid in active recovery at the beginning of what will be our last week of the program! These exercises have been selected to keep us loose, strong, and ready to rock and roll come race day!

> Post Race Restorative Yoga (September 10 9:30-10:30am):

Aminta returns for another yoga class, this one designed to gently stretch and restore our tired muscles after a successful race!
