We’re a little more than halfway through National Running Safety Month and we’ve been seeing some awesome photos from all your night running! You guys sure do make reflectivity look cool.
One of our favorite runner safety products is the Lightbender RX Armband by Nathan. Here’s why we love it:
Our brains are highly adept at making sense of bright spots on a moving body. From an article in The Boston Globe:
“The brain interprets a dozen strategically placed strips of light on our arms and legs as a body in motion. Those signals — like constellations come to life — can be light from reflective tape on our moving ankles, amber reflectors on bicycle pedals, armbands on swinging wrists and elbows, or stripes on pumping knees.”
Did you know that the color of light that you’re wearing makes a difference depending on the lighting or weather conditions you’re running in? Blue tends to be more noticeable in an urban setting (think of police cars). In fog or precipitation, the brain notices green more easily. And if you’re in total darkness, go red – it stands out in extra dark conditions the best.
No need to bother with batteries on this one – it is USB rechargeable and on a full charge offers 8 hours of steady light or 16 hours of flashing light.
Because we never really know what Mother Nature could throw our way – the Lightbender won’t quit if you end up running through a snow squall or sleet storm.
The Nathan Lightbender RX ($30) is available in select Marathon Sports locations. FIND A LOCATION NEAR YOU
