A Roller Coaster of Emotions

by Emily Stephens, #road2boston ambassador

Hello, Everyone!

With two full weeks of training completed, I have to tell ya – I am a little tired! The last 14 days have been a roller coaster ride of emotions, too.

When I found out that Marathon Sports and adidas selected me for this year’s Boston Marathon, I quickly got to work finding a training plan that would prepare me to run 26.2 miles in 12 weeks. Knowing that I need rest, I modified a plan that I found online to include two full rest days. I can’t imagine how tired I would be with only one day of rest.

You may be surprised to hear this, but Cape Cod is quite hilly! It’s not all beautiful beaches and seagulls. Two of my short run days are spent running hills. Up and down. As I shared on Instagram, Hills are my friends. Hills are fun.

Training during a New England winter is no joke! The cold temperatures have me questioning my sanity some days! But, that hasn’t stopped me from being excited to get outside and test out the adidas Energy Boost. This shoe is so comfy! It really hugs your foot and provides the right amount of cushion to absorb the impact of your foot hitting the ground. I have the Gray version, but it is available in three additional colorways. Check your local Marathon Sports for their selection.

I completed a few snowy miles, which reminded me how much I love running in the snow. It’s so peaceful and quiet. I make sure to bundle up, protect exposed skin with a petroleum based cream, and load up on lip balm.

A funny thing about running in Massachusetts, there’s a certain donut shop on nearly every corner. Listen to me friends – as good as those donuts smell, just say no. They’ll upset your stomach after a long run. Too much sugar all at once is no good. Coffee, always. Donuts, on rest days.

Until next time, make it a great day!
