FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. WHY ARE YOU ONLY PICKING THE UGLY SHOES FOR ME?
A. To be fair, some of the shoes we present to our customers are not likely to have won many beauty contests, but if you're choosing your shoes by appearance alone, the chances of getting into a shoe that is appropriate for your foot type are slim to none.
We fit each and every pair of feet that come through our doors with the customer's needs in mind first and foremost. Maybe the hot pink and silver color combo doesn't quite go with your Stewart Tartan plaid kilt for this year's Highland Games, but if it keeps you out of the doctor's office, we're happy with the decision.
Q. ALL OF YOUR SHOES LOOK LIKE RUNNING SHOES. I'M A WALKER, CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?
A. There is a popular misconception that walkers are somehow different, or less likely to need good shoes, than runners. This has unfortunately propagated itself within the footwear industry, to the point that a great many "walking shoes" out there are simply detuned, less expensive, and of worse construction than their running shoe counterparts.
The fact of the matter is that running and walking both put a great deal of stress on the muscles, tendons, and bones in the lower extremity, and as such each activity demands a high level of cushioning and a proper amount of support to get the job done right. Running shoes, on the whole, offer a greater variety of cushioning systems, levels, and support systems that ultimately allow us to "dial in" to a particular foot type or need better than with traditional walking shoes. As the dynamics of walking and running are very similar, almost every customer who comes in looking for walking shoes leaves with a running shoe.
Q. HOW LONG WILL A PAIR OF SHOES LAST?
A. Any footwear vendor will claim their shoes are designed to last from anywhere between 300 and 500 miles. In practice, we find that 400 miles is a fair life expectancy for a pair of training shoes, but there are a few factors that can have an effect on this number. Firstly, the surface you're running on and the conditions in which you're using the shoes can have a dramatic effect on their life. Cold weather and hard pavement can reduce the life of a shoe by up to a hundred miles in some cases. Also, body type can have a similar effect on the longevity of a shoe: a 90 lb girl and a 265 lb bodybuilder will have dramatically different durability results. For most runners and walkers, however, 400 miles seems to be the golden number.
Q. DOES THE SHOE FITTING PROCESS COST MONEY?
A. The shoe fitting process at Marathon Sports is totally free of charge. For more information about the process itself, see our Right Fit page.

A. No, no appointments are necessary.Just stop in whenever it's convenient during our normal business hours and we'll make sure you get our award winning customer service from start to finish. Q. HOW MUCH DO YOUR SHOES COST?
A. The typical pricepoint for the vast majority of our footwear is in the range of $110-$120. There are of course shoes that fall outside this range: shoes with high cushioning, more advanced technology, etc. In some cases these shoes can retail for as much as $170. However, most users will find a number of options that suit their needs within the average price range listed.
