Marathon Sports to Open New Location in Mansfield

12-Time Best of Boston Winning Running Specialty Retailer Launches 7th Store

BOSTON, MA – May 17, 2012 – Marathon Sports today announced it will open its 7th retail location in the town of Mansfield at 287 School St, in the space formerly occupied by Friendly’s Express. The 12-time Best of Boston award-winning running and walking specialty retailer looks to expand its business to the I-95/495 corridor, opening in early June across from the neighboring retail development at Mansfield Crossing.

Locally owned and operated since 1975, Marathon Sports brings expert biomechanical and gait analysis into the athletic footwear selection process, engaging customers in an education-oriented sales approach and encouraging them to try before they buy. With a personalized shoe fitting process catered to the individual needs of each customer, called The RightFit, Marathon Sports seeks to both prevent injury and improve performance.

With locations in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Melrose, Norwell, and Wellesley, Marathon Sports sees Mansfield as the next logical step in expanding its visibility in the Greater Boston running community.

“Our customers have been asking us to open down south for years, and we’ve finally found the perfect spot,” says owner Colin Peddie of the store’s location across from the rapidly growing Mansfield Crossing business development.

“The running, walking, and fitness community in this area is like none other, and with the strength and dominance of the high school teams in and around Mansfield, we think this location provides a great opportunity to positively impact the future health and wellbeing of the community.”

With plans to start, support, and sponsor local road races, wellness initiatives, and programming, Peddie says the new location is poised to finish 2012 with a flurry of events. “Road races, running form clinics, couch-to-5k programs, and even advanced training and injury prevention programming are the staples of the Marathon Sports educational experience, and we look to bring all of these to Mansfield as soon as we can,” says Peddie.

An opening date in June is planned, with a grand opening event scheduled for later in the summer months. The store will be open 7 days a week, and customers are encouraged to visit the Marathon Sports website at www.marathonsports.com for further details.
