Stan Fields: Miss Rhode Island, please describe your idea of a perfect date.

Miss Rhode Island: That's a tough one. I'd have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket. “

You know it’s been a really rough winter when we look at a 40 degree day and call it a heat wave. But still, we find those first signs of spring: Commonwealth Ave crowded with people training for the marathon, daylight savings, and our spring apparel orders arriving on our doorsteps.

The funny thing is, we start getting our spring apparel about a month and a half early. And we look at our spring jackets wondering, “When will we ever need this?” But as of late, the temperatures have been creeping higher and I have finally found my jacket of the spring: the Saucony Speed of Lite jacket.

The Speed of Lite jacket is a year-round jacket because it is what we consider a “lightweight shell;” it works well through the windy days of March, performs exceptionally well during a light summer rain, and can handle the colder months with layering.

It took the jacket for a run on the Charles and it was two degrees out. But, because I had very warm layers under the jacket, the Speed of Lite jacket’s wind proof layer kept my core warm. But when the weather gets warmer, I am sure that it will work well with a simple t-shirt.

That’s the best part about owning a versatile piece such as this jacket: it’s a great piece by itself but can be paired to withstand all elements.

Here’s the rundown:

-The back of the jacket and under arms has mesh that allows ventilation that prevents overheating.

-Anywhere the wind is not directly hitting the jacket will be breathable.

-Lightweight, DWR-coated front panel and sleeves provide water resistance and breathability

-Super stylish thumbholes for when you accidentally forget your gloves/want to look like a neon ninja.

-Lacks a front pocket but has a zipper stash pocket on the back.

-Super bright neon with reflective accents keeps you safe in low light conditions.

I have been wearing this jacket for 3 weeks now and I just wanted to show you the range of outfits and weather conditions I wore it with:

February 25th:

5 miles. 7am on the Charles -1 Degrees with windchill

Tracksmith Base Layer, Brooks Essential 1/2 Zip, Saucony Speed of Lite Jacket with Craft Gundie Shorts and Saucony Nomad Pants.

February 28th:

10 miles. Noon in Springfield MA. 24 Degrees, Heavy Snow over the last 4 miles.

Craft Active Extreme Crewneck, Sugoi Midzero 1/2 Zip, Saucony Speed of Lite jacket Tracksmith Bislett Pants, Craft Gundie Shorts.

March 4th:

7 miles. 3PM in Newton Lower Falls. 42 Degrees and Sunny

Adidas Supernova 3/4 Tight, Brooks Uptopia Long Sleeve, Saucony Speed of Lite Jacket

NO matter the weather, No matter the miles, this jacket will keep the wind from your core and a light rain from seeping in. THUMBS UP!
